It's the Highlight Reel. We know that. All that stuff we see about people on the internet is the best and the brightest of each person's life.
For real? Even the messes look adorable and cute. I'm not shaming. I'm so guilty. Nor do I plan to change my social media habit. In fact, I feel like I run in a crowd that is in a really good place about being honest and authentic about real life.
But even if you're trying to be intentional about being real stuff gets left out. Or maybe we just put it out there with our heads hanging and a blush on our cheeks. Unintentionally we perpetuate shame by being ashamed ourselves.
Each choice we makes comes with an opportunity cost. Every strong and resounding "No!" gives us room for a steady and sure "Yes!"
So today can we celebrate our don'ts together? Can we hold our head up and laugh without the tension of insecurity at all the things we don't do?
I'll go first.
-Fold Laundry. Ever.
-Like to Cook. Ever.
-Answer my phone. (Or most text messages for that matter.)
-Wash my hair very often.
-Change clothes every day.
-Do crafts with my kids.
-Call home when I'm out of town.
So what about you? Can you be brave to tell me your don't with your head held high? Can you leave your do's unspoken in the powerful space left by what you don't do?
