Be Salty: A New Blog Series

(If you hang on to the end there are some free printables down there! Patience is it’s own reward, people.)  Last year I spent an exorbitant amount of money on sea salt.

We order our oats in bulk and we only needed like $15 to get free shipping so I ordered a bulk bag of Sea Salt for $15. I know. That’s some pricey salt.

I mean, in full disclosure I salt my oatmeal, my chocolate, my pizza, and anything else that could ever possibly be considered food…if, you know, you put enough salt on it. So not a total waste, right?

It ruined me

It sang flavor in my mouth that Morton’s never knew existed. Rich coarse salt, does not taste like table salt. It was the first time the thought ever occurred that all salt is not created equal.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty? It's no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled on by men.” Matthew 5:13

Tasteless. Bland. Stagnant.

We read our Bibles. We serve in our ministries. We give to our missions

We sit down with our devotionals and they remind us that this God-directed work we are doing is holy. Set Apart. Special.

And yet…we still feel inconsequential.

We feel like there might just be a little something missing from our daily walk.

Tasteless. Bland. Stagnant.

Stagnant: The atmosphere of confined space having no current or outflow.

We aren’t missing the pouring out of our lives. We are missing the purpose of the outpour.

“Therefore I have reason to boast in Christ Jesus regarding what pertains to God.” Romans 15:17

We need to be bragging our heads off.

No really. Stay with me here.

You are not just gifted, called, and set apart. You are gifted by our Great God. You are called by our Eternal Creator. You are made Holy by a Loving Savior. It may possibly, sort of, kind of, maybe be worth mentioning.

Lifeway did a study two years ago that said 80% of all church goers believe they need to share their faith, but 60% hadn’t done it in the last six months. SIX MONTHS!

Stagnant: The atmosphere of confined space having no current or outflow.

“Your speech should always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.” Colossians 4:6

Y’all we pour that salt out with our words. Did catch that? We need to use our WORDS. We don’t need a gospel presentation, we need to show people the gospel present in our lives.

Don’t hear me throw stones here, I am the absolute worst about sharing Jesus. If there could be a gift that is the opposite of evangelism, that would be mine. But yall. We are turning into Morton’s when we need to be Sea Salt.

"You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14

Sisters and Brothers, you are stars. You are shining. Not of your own power, but of His. If you don’t think that afore mentioned city on a hill has a litter problem, some waste disposal issues, and some landscaping that needs to be done, you are wrong.

I’ve been to cities on four different continents and they all have this in common: they stink and they are dirty…but, man, do they shine!

People are left out in the cold, dark, wild with all sorts of things gnawing and tearing at them. Dude, they don’t care about your junk, they care about your light. People are starving and they need your flavor. Your voice. Your outpour.

God did not place you in your life just to so that your could earn a few more crowns in heaven. Sure that’s a perk when we get to heaven, but our lives have terrestrial purpose too and that is to testify to his Wonderful Works.

They need to hear you brag and boast and speak the wonderful works of God.

Everyday. It adds the spice, the flavor. It makes you sparkle. It lights you up.

We are going to start here. Right here. In this little blog space.

I introduce to you a new blog series: Salty. This will be a place to brag and boast about what you, yeah YOU, are watching God do in your life right now. I don’t want to hear someone else’s story, I want it painfully personal about where you are with God right now. I want you to stand on God’s grace in the middle of your mess and testify. I want you to stand on your mountaintop and shout!

So here is how this works:

I want you to answer one or all or any conglomeration of the following questions.

  • Where are you living? Because where you are, Jesus is too.
  • What good comes out of there? Because you serve the God that created good.
  • What has He shown you? Because even baby Christians are being guided by the Good Shepard.
